Years of war have left deep marks on the Syrian educational system. Many schools are damaged, and many children and young people have been unable to attend classes for a long time or have completely lost touch with school and training. Our new project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), opens up new educational and career opportunities for them.
Together with our local partner, the Social Support and Education Foundation (SSEF), we have been running a learning center since August 2026 in Saboura, a suburb of Damascus, where children and young people with little or no school education receive basic lessons and develop digital and social skills. The goal is to catch up on learning gaps and enable them to return to the formal education system.
The project also offers 90 teenagers and young adults two- to three-month fast-track training programs in urgently needed professions – including solar energy and inverter maintenance, electrical installation, and network technology. These hands-on qualifications improve their job prospects and boost their financial independence.
At the same time, teachers receive further training, and parents and the local community are actively involved. This way, the project connects education, career opportunities, and social participation – creating new chances for young people who have lost valuable years of schooling due to the war.
